This winter or more specifically Jan was colder than normal here--especially the average. I looked back at my post last year and my lemon was already blooming at this time last year (post on Feb 2). There is no sign of any growth on any of my inground trees this year. Yesterday was in the mid 70s, but that was the first warm spell this year.

I'm getting ready for spring!

I have lost count of how many snow storms we have had in Colorado so far this winter. The last snow storm was just yesterday. I guess it must be somewhere around 15 or so. Southern California should certainly be happy about the amount of snow in Colorado, as they get a major amount of water from the Colorado river. The Colorado river basin's snow level is currently 169 percent of a 30 year average, with our heaviest snow months still yet to come (March & April). Many places now exceed 30 feet in depth. i love winter in Colorado, my favorite season of the year. - Millet

Man I can't believe how much warmer you guys are in SC! We had 70 for a high today and will only hit 50s tomorrow. We should not go below mid 30s on Sunday AM--that's the lowest prediction in our 10 day forecast.

Good luck with the cold blast!

Yes, thank you!! It's just too bad that by the time the water reaches us, the taste isn't the same as what it was in Colorado. Then again, it has something like 11 waste water treatment plants discharging into it before it reaches us and picks up any other number of natural and man made salts, organics, and contaminants.

One of the prices we pay to live in sunshine. Some day when we're out of water, the environmentalists won't let us build any desalination plants, and my kids are forced into the public indoctrination centers of the People's Republic of California, I'll finally have enough of California and have to find a nice mountain top near you Millet. Please keep an eye out for real estate for me. Smile

Last year I had blossoms on my Meyer lemon on January 1st. Which were all frozen off in early February when our three weeks of 80+ weather suddenly ended with a hard frost.

That big freeze we had in early January knocked the leaves off the grove citrus, but there does not appear to be a twig damage so I expect they'll grow back as soon as the weather stays warm for a while and maybe I'll get some blossoms that will stay as well.

A week or more of 80 or near 80 temperatures then a hard freeze followed by another week of near 80 temps again is rough on citrus.

I'm sure we've got at least one more good frost and possibly several to come before it's over with for this season.

.....Alan.

Hi Gang, haven't been here for awhile but here's my 2 cents worth LOL.
Talk about COLD!!!?? Our wind chills lately have been to 40f below. Wind drifts that look like sand dunes -- like sculptures. It's so cold, that if you take a deep breath, your lungs will stick & lock up-- or something... but,& you can't breath in again- till your lungs thaw out
- Pretty scarry huh?
I am sick of shoveling. I have no garage & have to park on street & I get plowed in & have to shovel that out & move my car & get plowed in again!
All my plants are just holding. The bananas are not doing anything since late Oct.,
the Key limes are not getting much bigger & it lost a lot of leaves, but fruits are hanging on.
The Honey Mandarine are slowly ripening & dropping off, but I still eat them. Mostly everything is dormant & not doing anything. Other small fruits are not getting much bigger nor are they ripening. The sunroom they are in is a low of 42*f at night & 59* day.
That is about my body temp lately - which is why I haven't been on here lately Laughing
It's tough being engaged to be married! I blame it all on my fiance'.... he's taking a lot of my time but also giving a lot towards my remodeling.
Can't wait till SUMMER Rolling Eyes Hope the plants hold out & survive 'till then.

It's been nice here in San Diego also. We supposedly hit 79 today.

I had a meeting with FEMA this morning to go over some of the remaining fire damage and they mentioned that they were sending a bunch of staff to the Carolinas. I thought they said because of flooding, but does anyone happen to know? I haven't seen anything on the news.

Yes, it was on the nightly news Sunday night. The flooding was in the Carolinas, but I was only half listening. I believer it was North Carolina. Whenever I hear the word Carolina, I always automatically think of Laaz. - Millet

No, but looking on their website, I don't see any disasters reported in the Carolina's. The tornadoes in Tennessee and the south are on there. They could be going for training for all I know. We had a half dozen conversations going on in the room at the time, so I could have misunderstood them also. They said that they would be leaving San Diego in March and I had asked if they were sending people to Tennessee and he said no that they were sending folks to what I thought I heard was the Carolina's for flooding. I've been talking to the FEMA staff almost every day, so I'll find out if they call tomorrow.
