depends which part of the world you are living, altitude, and whether in greenhouse or inground. you will have to tell us more about the context of air layering. In the US where there is mild enough temperature that are mangoes can be grown inground outside, practically late winter, which is around end of February to early March is the best time.

thanks joe

i have about ten mango trees grown inground. they are about 25-30 years old>
i had sucees airlayering rubber tree and rasberries . the way is to cut a ring around the bark of a branch then add some rooting hormone then cover it with a damp peatmoss then wrap it in a poly bag.
so will that similar method work with mangoes?

problem: one of those mango trees does not bear fruit so i am thinking to get rid of it since it is too big to graft. is there a way to graft a huge tree?

Here is a comment on air layering of mangos from IFAS-
Quote:
Air layering of some varieties ('Tommy Atkins') has been successful by applying a 2% naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) in a lanolin mixture to the distal bark and girdled wood interface of the girdle. Adventitious roots form in about 10 to 12 weeks. However, this method has not been practiced on a commercial scale, and tree performance under conditions in the home landscape has not been tested.
