What do you mean "It has stopped producing"? ... Heat go out or what?
I set seedling trays on a heating pad on low heat, _________________ Patty

Valencia, sorry I misinterpreted you. If no heat, I would definately take it back. Just say you only used it a few days ... & I hope you kept receipt, or at least can prove you bought it there. They should replace it. I don't know how much it cost, but I've seen them here for more than what I paid for heating pad. Been using heating pad for 10 years! Good luck. _________________ Patty

Valencia, how did that mat work out?
I am looking for a decent heating mat for my seedlings also, and I am wondering if any of you have a recommendation. It would be used primarily for seedlings in a flat, but in it's off time maybe be used to heat up some citrus roots as well. _________________ I am amazed when anything grows in my yard! |

Well I took it back and they didn't need a recipt because they work on a customer database. They were really good about it too, they say it seems to happen a lot. That either it will short out soon after you get it or it will last a long time. I don't really know of any good sources in the US as I think this the store I bought mine from is only Canadian. But the mat its self is Planters Pride. Hope that helps. _________________

I don't know how much those seedling mats are, but I used my old heating pad -- set on towel on floor, then used a old see thru zippered blanket bag set right on top of pad. Put seedling tray inside bag...set heat pad to low or med heat(?) & zipped it up. When they sprouted, I put a low watt spiral flourescent bulb over & it worked great. A nice little greenhouse for them!
I think I bought heating pad at Walgreens/ Walmart $10-15.00. _________________ Patty

Patty, that sounds like a great idea. What kind of heating pad did you get? Was it a massage-type pad? I did a quick search on Walmart's site and that's all that came up. Was the light you used just a regular spiral flourescent or a special one that had a wavelength suited for growing plants? _________________ I am amazed when anything grows in my yard! |

Hi Chops, no massage pad - just heating pad with low med & high settings.
T'was a reg. spiral 14 - 24 watt spiral flourescent bulb..can't remember, but it worked great. Don't forget that 24 watt spirals are = to 100 watt reg bulbs. _________________ Patty

I have bee looking for a heat mat that I could use to start some Plumeria seeds, however the only ones I can find around here work on a timer for safety. The timer will shut the unit down after 2 hours and must be manually restarted. This really sucks when you need it to be on for long periods of time.
