I haven't been posting here much cuz I'm being a slave to my basement for awhile now. Yesterday, I was digging a trench to lay copper water line & I found this 1902 penny in very good condition. It is almost the same color as the clay I was digging, so I am surprised I even saw it!
Anyone know how I can find out what it is worth? Anyone have a rare- coin book to look it up? Just hoping it's worth THOUSANDS $$$ so I can hire someone to do the crappy work down there!!!
What I'm doing there is making an apartment..tore up front room wooden floor & have to move water meter out of hole that had a trap door that opened to read meter. The floor will be concrete & meter will be moved above ground (by a plumber of course). I also knocked out a bunch of plaster & lathe walls .... geeze, do the garbage men hate me!
I'm not TOO off topic for a plant forum....at least I was digging clay SOIL with my GARDEN spade LOL.
Am I rich with this penny? Laughing
Thanks!

Hi Patty,
I actually am a VERY amatuer coin collector. I have a rather nice penny collection. Nothing real valuable but decent.
The best information I have for you probably won't thrill you.
A 1902 Indian Head penny, in MINT uncirculated condition is only worth about $25. Considering you found it buried, it probably isn't in that great a condition. Probably worth about $1.25. The indian head cent was minted from 1859-1909. Prior to the issue of the five cent nickel, these coins were commonly called nickels or nicks. they made 87,376,722 and were minted in Philidelphia.
Whatever you do don't try to clean it, you will actually lessen the value that way. I would just hang on to it, 20-30 years from now, you might break three digits. Laughing
Darren
