That is great and exciting, congrats....I'm waiting for my lemon tree from seed to produce fruit. I'm also interested in how many years it took to fruit.

It took 5 yrs and fruit got picked by my new dog Blue heeler GRRRRR. not even ready but we did get to eat one . May of been too tart one of the reasons i do not like grapefruit but its fun to grow for others too. My mom said Maybe ruby red since it was red inside .. i tried it and thought it was the best one ever OK a little proud here but the others got picked half this size and im tellen ya i could of sold my blue healer then and wont now she is OK just need a new area for my trees .

... or a chain for your dog .. Wink

Congrats !
5 years are not that long.

Last winter I bought a Star Ruby just for planting the seeds and then it was one fat seed in it and cut though the middle ...
I planted it nevertheless and I really DID grow ... Smile
So maybe you hear from me in 5 years .. Very Happy

That would be awesome , i have 4 English pear trees about 2-3 ft tall from seed . the fruit actually came from an old English castle a friend sent . too ripe to eat i planted the 4 seeds from 2 fruit and Presto they grew . the others Mark threw in the disposal he said on accident doing the dishes .... funny hes never done the dishes that is why i was sure they where safe in the coffee mug. grrrr

I am from Austria.
We are in book of records for having the biggest pear and apple wood of the world.
Means pears and apples grow litterally everywhere.

No wonder, we cultivated them and the wild apples and pears still grow in the woods.

The farmer here always grew their own trees by seeds :
They let it grow till they got fruits and then decided :
Good enough to let it produce or use as rootstock.

Doing this for thousands of years they got locally adapted, very well tasting fruits and very profolic trees.
Besides the trees were on OWN roots or of their own offspring.
Such grafts unite perfectly and are qzuite same as own roots.
We have thousands of trees that are over 400 years old and produce enourmously.

Modern grafts produce well just 20 years well and die soon ...

thats pretty cool. I have a small grapefruit seedling that I hope will fruit in that amount of time. Do you have a full pic of the tree. It appears to be pretty good size. I guess you must have a greenhouse for winter.

Good job. I have quite a few citrus I've started from seed, no fruit yet on any of them.

One of my dogs is around a year old and I've caught him biting fruit off of a Suriname cherry tree and a peach tree I have. What bothers me is he doesn't EAT the fruit- its just a game to him, as soon as it is on the ground, then he looses interest.

Mike Since the fire 3 yrs ago i have had all my citrus out side and i live close tyo the beach with Global warming my area is now 9 and with out the green house they actually seem to do better then when i had them in it during the winter . When i had the Green house for winter i had to watch for molds and I love the Cold Hardy trees here . Lisbin Lemons ,gran nan Banana's and Musa Banana's are the best that grow here . I also have a Tree that i got 4 yrs ago that i have fought to keep alive its a Verigated pink lemon Finally with out the green house its thriving. Maybe i wikk try Oronico and Harvey Citrus next I bought 3 trees from stan all did well and 3 from Burnt ridge Nursery. but all 3 died with in a week. cali is out due to Greening and ther asian worm.
