I have a mature satsuma where I often graft (t-bud) new satsuma cultivars into. I have noticed that when I graft, it could be that all my batch of grafted budwoods will have zero take, no matter how careful and how good or ideal is the weather, with barks slipping too. So I always keep extras and do regrafts just in case. When I regraft on the same satsuma tree at other times, no matter how sloppy I do the budding, they would all take. It is like a session is an all or nothing scenario. Both cases, the barks are slipping.
Is there a secret to the timing of budding unto mature satsumas? Any tips that you can share?
I have no problem when budding unto most other cultivars, mature or not, and simply no problem with all types of rootstock as long as I am budding unto a virgin stock.
