Here's an interesting one for you.

I found some pineapple seeds in a fruit I recently purchased. Not too common from what I've gathered on the internet. Even less common are instructions on how to cultivate them.

According to the few instructions that I have found, I have placed them on cactus/succulent potting soil that's kept moist but not wet and have them in a heated "incubator" (~80 F).

Anybody have experience with growing pineapple from seed? Just curious if anybody has some knowledge in the area. Don't really care if I get fruit, but just want to see what they'll do. (Isn't that why we all do this?)

I sprouted some after seeing Gina's post, but I did it in the fall and did not keep them warm-- most have died, but I still have a few hanging on. It took quite a while for them to sprout on top of my hot water heater-- I probably should have left them there.

Thanks for the info. That's a great thread that Gina had going on her pineapples. That's still cool even though they didn't make it.

This topic got me to register on this very interesting citrus forum via Google.

I have one pineapple plant grown succesfully from a pine apple top. Took about 1/2 year to set good roots, haven't had a flower on it yet (it's nearly 2 years old).

In New Zealand they have been cutting off the pineapple tops since last year, because of biosecurity reasons.

Today my wife noticed some seeds in a pineapple hence my reply.
Maybe because of the topping off the tops the pineapple is triggered to set seed as a last resort to propagate itself.

I got 4 seeds and will give it a go to propagate them on a hotbed.
I will keep my results posted on this forum for other members.

Regards
Raymond
