My container Meyer Lemon is fairly small (maybe 18" tall) and it branches from the main trunk about 2" from the soil, making it bush-like. I'm curious to know what the advantages/disadvantages of the tree and bush form are for container citrus.

Your plant is probably a rooted cutting. Meyers are very often propagated that way. The advantage is that when planted in the ground, if the plant is killed to the ground from a freeze it will come back from the roots. In a container it really doesn't matter.

From my experience my meyer on it's own roots produces a better and larger crop than the grafted one I had. I gave away the grafted one a few years ago. I make about 50 rooted cuttings from my meyer every spring.

I would say if you can leave more branches (bushy) the more fruit you can get.. More tree shape would save some room but less area for fruit to grow..
aside from that it would be a choice of what pleases your eye..
Just my 2c.

I agree with Babyblue in that it's mostly a matter of what form pleases you most. I personally like to train them to stand up from the top of the pot somewhat to make them easier to work with. Not a strict tree shape, but mostly just getting the limbs off the top of the pot so I can see and work with the media within.
