On a grafted tree to say Trifoliate using the T-bud method, does the scion at some point cover the whole top of the rootstock? I've been watching a lot of my trees and it seems that the scion is slowly growing over the stump. I've also notices shoots of the scion type growing from the other side of where the graft was. So I'm guessing that scion bark has grown or taken over to allow this branch to grow?

Another question, a lot of my trees are growing branches at or just above the graft point. What is the general thought on allowing these branches to grow? It seems odd, I have this whole canopy and then bam, right at the graft point, shoots are coming out like crazy.

When a t bud sprouts I always force it by cutting off the rootstock a few inches above the rootstock. By doing that the t bud will take over most of the growth and that where you see the stump.

I always take off anything that comes out where the graft is or anything genrqlly close.
