I had it with this cold spring & hauling trees in & out. Days are sunny & 60's but on 10 pm weather, said down to mid to upper 30's tonight. Most of smaller stuff was already in except my 3 biggies I got in Fl. I got the big one up the 3 inch step to sunroom & tripped over my slipper as I was pushing it in. Fell strait FWD & my head went right into the trunk which stopped me. I felt the pain in my head but kept pushing it in & closed door. Looked in bathroom mirror & hair was wet w/BLOOD - about 2 inches up from front of my ear (good thing it wasn't my temple). Of course, I hit a big fat 1 inch thorn strait on! Big headache...what PAIN. I put peroxide on it. Big bump there & throbbing like crazy...tender. I checked the tree & there was a big ol thorn- broken.
All thru Sunday will be about the same temps & I'm leaving them in! Grrr
And, no I didn't have any vino tonight...But I'll have a glass now & maybe get rid of this headache. Guess I'll have to sleep on one side...Can't even touch it...YOUCH. Mother nature is being a real bitch.

I did something similar 20+ years ago with a Washingtonia robusta. I picked up the large 15 gallon potted palm to move it. As I rounded the corner the wind grabbed the fronds and the heavily armed petioles hit me in the face. I was cut up with surface wounds and looked a mess knocking on my neighbors door for gauze. Hard to explain how you lost a fight with a palm.

Cheers, Barrie.

Awww thanks. Right now I can barely touch my head there & last night couldn't sleep on that side. Still feels like I got stabbed in the head!
Barrie, I have a trachy palm & a large date palm & I feel sorry for you getting hit with THOSE thorns! Those are MUCH worse than my citrus thorns. I just feel lucky when I think of how bad it coulda been...like in my eye.
I sure had a headache last night, but part coulda been from laughing so hard at the "off Topic" forum..."pet peeves". I laughed so hard I was crying Laughing

OUCH Patty!!! That sound like me.. I remove thorns from my trees or at least trim them back because I am soo accident prone.. I do this while I am inspecting the plants for bugs.. I'd be picking thorns out of my body constantly if I didn't.. LOL
well.. ok so I haven't de thorned the finger lime.. that would take over a week to do.. but I stay clear of it.. keep it far from reach.. maybe that is why it is doing so well?? Rolling Eyes It doesn't get over loved???
I will be glad when this weather gets off it's yoyo ride..
Hope your booboo gets feelin better soon!!!

Thanks Gina, it wasn't too long ago I mentioned that I like having big thorns on the trunks to maybe keep squirreles off? As a joke, I said I'd wrap them in barbed wire LOL
Buddinman just told me that if a thorn breaks under skin, it can cause real problems (as did him a while back). I know that didn't happen..scalp is thin skin. I DO know that sucker pierced my skull & then broke & ripped thru my scalp (causing the bleeding). The thorn is broke in half & still hanging on tree. Still have a very tender bump there but getting better.
It's ugly, cloudy, drizzely & 50* now. Weather is calling for same till next weekend...with lows around 40*. I'm keeping them all in till it warms up, then I might have to get them acclimated to full sun again! Lousy spring.
Other years, I had a good tan by now!

No, ice would hurt too much. Doesn't hurt now unless I touch it, & it's getting better. Advil helped last night w/ headache.
