And how do you like the Paw Paw and Maypop?

I love the coloring on that PawPaw. How is that particular variety? I've never actually tasted one. And I always seem to hear it's a love-it or hate-it response to the taste.

Thanks,
-Luke

Here where I live in the Georgia mountains, the native persimmon (diospyros virginiana) is practically an exotic fruit. Though it does grow here hardly anyone I ask either hasn't heard of it or have never tasted it.

The Paw Paw is even worse- no one knows what that is.

I ate a maypop today. It was very ripe. The flesh is white, less juicy and less acidic than passiflora edulis. The flesh fill the entire fruit unlike the tropical fruit. The taste is excellent although a bit less strong than edulis.

My pawpaw is Sunflower. The taste is a mix of mango, banana and vanilla whith a hint of astringency. The flesh have a buttery consistency. This fruit is different from its tropical cousins (cherimoya, soursop etc). I think its a very good fruit. There has been an attempt to introduce pineapple guyava in culture here in southwest France : at my opinion pawpaw would be far more interesting but it is totally unknown here.

I have a diospyros virginiana "Meader" at my parents home. Its very different from kaki (well known here since one and a half century). The flesh is more dense with an aftertaste of rum.

Thanks jm,

Paw Paw is on my acquisition list but it has to wait till I finish my Citrus plantings. I'm not sure if the Maypop will survive here but it sounds good.

I have Fuyu Persimmons and my mother-in-law has a fig tree that bears too much fruit, so much that she can't give it away fast enough.

In the spring, I'm getting a papaya tree from Tiny Tom's Tangerine Farm. That will go inside the new greenhouse when it's finally built.
