My PT's which were planted 2 years ago are now putting out leaves with the 80 degree heat wave this week. My year-in-ground swingle is putting out a few sprouts, but my other 3 planted last year (Thomasville, Changsha, Rusk) are not putting out any buds yet. I've heard kumquats are slow to wake, but when should I expect my other 3 to wake up? I was still having freezing temps a week or two ago.

Nice! My FD is in the early stages of breaking dormancy... but w/ colder weather in the forecast for the next few days it may still be a little while before it starts putting out a growth flush.

Here's a study that looks into spring bud break in different citrus.

Check out the data in Tables 3 and 5. The PT-hybrids break dormancy earlier than the Kumquats and PT in the "natural conditions" part of the study (Table 3). This appears to be the opposite of what you are seeing...

Thanks for the info Scott! Table 4 indicates that citrangquat needed more time than PT or citrumelo to bud break after temps stay above 10 degrees C. I was thinking maybe the hybrids and Changsha might be slowed down or in shock from the cold of winter, whereas the PT is at home in a colder climate and therefore may perk up quicker like the cherries and apples do here as soon as it warms up.

Very Happy ok. My rusk and swingle and PT's have been putting out leaves for about two weeks now and just yesterday my Changsha and Thomasville and Kimbrough started showing tiny green budlets; so they are thinking about waking up!
