I have read numerous times about how young Meyer Lemons will produce fruit BUT shouldn't I wait till the third year in ground to let it produce fruit or are Meyers special and able to deal with young fruiting better than other citrus?

The third year is usually the beginning of huge production. I planted a meyer lemon in 2001 and in fall of 2003 I harvested over 600 fruit on only on plant! One branch alone had over 100 fruit and broke from the weight of the fruit. Many of the near ripe meyer lemons were touching the ground and got brown rot. I still harvested 10 boxes on two plants which is way more than I need.

These trees grew really really fast from only 3 feet at planting time to over 10 feet and 12 feet wide in three years! I did not remove any fruit except when ripe or near ripe or damaged.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. I just happen to have two meyer lemons which look very healthy and are currently in a growth spurt. I hope I have similiar results. I have readso much about the quality of the lemonade made from these fruits. If it is as good as they say the grandson may have to open a lemonade stand!

Meyers? Mine have completed 2 years in ground, and I am hoping for a Spring flush. I have gotten "water" sprouts with huge leaves, possibly from over-exuberant fertilizing. I just cain't hep it!

What's a good recipe for lemonade? I have several meyer lemons ripening right now but I can't find any real use for them...

I have an in-ground Meyer lemon that produces a LOT of fruit. In my opinion, the fruit of the Meyer lemon is just OK. It certainly does not have the crisp clean sharp taste of a real lemon, and of course its taste is far distant from even a mediocre orange. The lemonade made from Meyer lemons is also just OK, but not as refreshing as lemonade make from real lemons. - Millet (396 ABO-)

The scent of the meyer lemon peel is no good either...

I have 1 large tree and the only thing that I can find that they are good for is to give away if I can find someone to take them. I only keep the tree because I have OCD and want 1 of every variety of citrus.

Lemonade is just sugar, water, lemon juice. You should just find the balance you like which means playing with ratios.

You can have some fun by using another sweetener (agave/honey) and mixing other juices or even herbs into it (I like basil, just put the leaves in whole).

OK Maybe I should move them to out by the road and everyone will think I grow bad fruit and not "borrow" any! LOL

I picked nearly all fruit from my small meyer tree yesterday. One kilo of meyer lemons. I didn't expect it would be that much! Laughing
As I didn't have any use for them, I decided to juice them all. Good for half a liter of juice! Then I added the juice of the fruit of my moro tree. The resulting juice was very soar, too soar to drink, so I added sugar, lots of it! Laughing
My wife and daughter didn't like it, but I (of course) did! Razz

When I lived in Pompano Beach, we used to put wheelbarrow loads of Ponderosa lemons out by the street. People would always take them. Laughing

We lived in Delray Beach when our kids were in elementary school. I swear all the fruit that rains down to the ground down there easily makes entrepeneurs of the children. They would spend 10 minutes picking up mangos and make $10 in a short time. The spirit has stayed with them through their lives. They catch 5 fish, sell 3 to a local restaurant, give one fish to a person "in need".
