I have two Improved Meyer Lemons against the house in a very small place (I don't have much room here), and I would like them to stay small but still produce fruit. They are currently about 3 feet tall and wide.

My plan is to keep them trimmed down at 4 feet tall each by trimming in alternating years. In other words, each plant will be trimmed every-other year. That way, each tree will fruit in alternating years and the trees will alternate the year they fruit, giving me fruit every year.

Does this sound like it would work?

Commercially, when citrus trees are cut back, to keep them at a manageable height, they hedge cut only one side of the tree. Then the following year they cut the other side of the tree. That way at least one half of the tree is always in production. Your idea is much the same practice, only using two trees. -Millet (504-)
