The Southeastern Palm Society held it's quarterly meeting in St Mary's, GA on February 24. We all took a ferry to Cumberland Island, which is part of the national seashore system. St Mary's itself is a great place to visit, being only 10 or 12 miles off of I-95, and Cumberland Island is a national treasure. You can read more about it here:

This is a live oak limb with a cactus trailing from it. It appears to be a dune cactus (opuntia type that I kept a keen lookout for at the beach as a boy) but no one knows what it is doing here. Our guide pointed it out to us. I have live in a similiar enviorment all of my life, but I have never seen this before.
There is a number of wild horses on the island.
The old live oak forests with Sabel minor as an understory were stuning.
Dungeness Ruins
An old date palm that grows there.
We all wondered how this guy made it to the island. He paid us no mind as he (she) went about it's business of hunting for something to eat.
