Joan,
Thanks!! I am blushing.. I am pretty much a Newbie also.. Citrus tree growing has given me courage to try to grow other tropical plants.. I've had house plants.. but having a poinsettia live for 6 yrs was the closest I got to "tropical" house plants.. it was the ONLY poinsettia I've ever had.. boyyy did I get my money out of that one.. lol
The help from ppl in forums has been a great blessing.. and having a wealth of info on the internet has been great also..
I have learned more in the past year online than I ever could have hoped to from books.. I try and read most of the posts.. even if they don't pertain to me.. who knows down the road it might be info I can use.. and I love using search engines.. they are great!! and use more than one.. cause some stuff will be on one search site and not on another..
Glad you are inspired by my collection..

Baby Blue awesome Plants ,
I need to ask some questions about your Cherimoya ...

1 how many did you plant ? i have over 100 seeds starting and actually a few germinating as we speak.. How long did it take your root system on them to mature enough for the plants to start out .. I got some seeds and had a friend send me some 2-3 oz fruit they couldnt sell due to small size ( any thing for cherimoya Know what i mean )?any way i have all the seeds started about 2 weeks ago doing the 48 hr soak and the bag method laaz mentioned for starting citrus..also how much to water ?
I want at least 5 plants for myself when it comes to cherimoya im a Pig and my renter almost got kicked out when he ate 4 of the 6 my friend sent me .... Shocked I was not happy LOL can i grow them in trays or do you suggest something bigger ? Oh and the Other question is .. How the heck do you keep those fly Trap Plants alive mine die as soon as i get them home never to come back.. ive never had luck with them and I fallow directions to a T..Tammy

Well.. I accidently watered the venus flytraps with tap water and they died shortly after.. I read not to use clorinated water.. I can say that was what did it.. they were very healthy before my mistake.. Not sure I'm going to get any more.. but it was fun while it lasted..
Here are photos of my Cherimoya and coffee.. I have added Bay (thanks to Patty) Guava (thanks to Gaylord) and a few other misc. tropicals...

Poor dwarf Banana after potting it up and taking pups.. I gave it as a present to my best friend.. she didn't mind that the fruit won't be edible.. I saved a pup for myself and my dad by spring they will be ready to go outside... Needed to make room for edible fruiting banana tree though...

Gina, congratulations on the Coffee trees. I have managed to kill every Coffee tree I ever tried to grow. Guess I found my match in that plant. I had a Cherimoya tree that was given to me as a 8 inch potted plant by Citrus Joe, that eventually grew to approximately 7 or 8 feet tall. I finally tossed it out after I purchased some Cherimoyas from the store and did not like the taste of the fruit. Cherimoya's also have a million seeds in them. Anyway a BIG CONGRATULATIONS on your success with the Coffee trees. Way to go, your an inspiration. Take Care - Millet

Hold that thought Gina....

those are awesome. Had a friend in Cincinnati who had one coffee plant. they had a few other cute tropicals, but no other edibles.

Millet- i dont adore Chermioya like some do, but dead ripe from a california farmers market, theyre pretty good. I cant imagine a shipped-hard store fruit being any good. they ARE seedy tho.

Thanks!!! Never would have imagined being inspiring *BLUSH*... I'm donating the larger coffee plant to the local school greenhouse.. I will probably donate some citrus to them as well when I have enough to share..
As for the Cherimoya.. I have never tasted one.. and I have never even seen one in a store around here.. But my dad has tasted them before and likes them.. If I find I don't like the taste I guess it will make a good gift for my dad..
But then.. I have quite a few plants that I have never tasted the fruit of before.. I love an adventure though.. and these plants have been an adventure for sure.. NOT your average house plants for sure!! And they help oxygenate the inside air..
Thanks for the compliments!!!

A while ago I posted that I grow cherimoya but never tasted one. Citrus Joe bought one in his local store & sent it to me (what a sweety!). I didn't think it was that great...bland & just TOO many seeds. But now I'm hearing that fresh off tree is really good compared to store bought. I planted mine from seed 4 yrs ago & am hoping I'll get a few blooms next yr!!!!

not sure of the age of my cherimoya.. at least a yr. my guess. I've had it since spring.. not sure how old it was when I got it... I keep looking in stores.. even in bigger cities I haven't seen any.. maybe when I'm in the city I'm just off season?? not that I get to Wichita or KC or Tulsa that often.. Some times I miss living in a town large enough to have "exotic" stuff now and then..
