Hello all Im new here and also relatively new to citrus growing. I live about an hour east of downtown Los Angeles. I have a cara cara navel and just recently bought a kumquat from HD.

I wouldnt say I bought a good example of a kumquat. It is pretty small in comparison to the other citrus trees being sold. There is no signs of new growth and all the fruits have apparently been picked off. The leaves seem a little dull. I bought it anyway because I just have to have a kumquat.

As Ive read kumquats tend to flower in the summertime. Would anyone be able to tell me when can I expect mines to begin flowering or at least put out new growth? If not anytime soon, I will probably return it and wait for a better specimen and get a different citrus variety for now.

Here are some pictures. Does it look like it will take off in the next few months? Im just afraid I might have a tree that will do nothing until next year. Shocked

My cara cara is much more vigorous looking. Very Happy

Everything looks OK. This is the end of the fruit season. It will bloom (late) and grow (slowly) and you will have fruits next year. Nothing to do against that.

You have a very nice Kumquat tree. Because Kumquats are naturally hardier than other citrus varieties, they require a longer period of heat to break dormancy, and begin growth. Your tree should start growing sometime in the latter part of April or even into May. Welcome to the forum, we are happy to have you as a member. - Millet (1,403-)

Thanks for information from you both. I really appreciate knowing what is going to go on with this kumquat. Smile I will keep it then.

There is a kumquat tree I often pass by in a different city here farther south and it is like 8 foot tall and loaded with kumquats. I will get a picture next time I can. I think it so amazing, you guys have to see it when I post the pics.
