I can't find where I read it at, but I seem to recall that CHC pH is naturally somewhere around 6.5 My well water runs about 7.5 or thereabouts. It seems to me that after multiple rinses then the cation exchange the CHCs ought to come out pretty close to neutral.

But why would you want the CHC to come up to neutral when the citrus trees optimum pH is 6.5?

I don't want it to come up to neutral. I want to get a grip on what the chc pH situation is by the time I've rinsed it well and done the cation exchange. I've got about twelve gallons of chips processed and ready to add the minors to. I'm thinking if I add the dolomite as well it might push the pH too high.

Doing a search on past posts just now though I see where the pH of coir dust runs from about 5 to 6 depending on the source so it probably isn't going to be a problem after all. I was just misremembering what I'd read.

All of my dolomite is pelletized so I'm going to have to get some powdered stuff.

Alan,

Can you kindly edit your profile and enter Your City and Your State in the location field? Just click the Profile icon near the top of this page, then scroll down until you find the box for location. Hope this is not invasion of privacy, but it would help us contextualize your experiences in growing citruses. That would tremendously help us readers of your important posts.

Thanks,

Joe
