Hopefully, this won't offend anyone if you're Chinese. At least they are being honest!

Thats funny Patty. They eat some strange things over there but I'm sure they think we eat strange things over here. My father ate monkey brains when in NAM although he didn't know it at the time. It was a joke that he got played on him when he was on R&R. |

Monkey brains was a real treat there & in China, Thailand etc. They may have them roasted on occasion now, but years back, they carefully cut the skull & it was served on a wooden platter cut to fit the skull. The monkey was still alive under it!! They don't really do that anymore but I think it was a fad for rich ppl for a while.
When I was young, I saw Johnny Mathis on Johnny Carson show & he said he ate monkey fresh brains at a restaurant after one of his shows - can't remember what country. I almost thru up. What a dummy to even admit that here. I have not seen him on a talk show since.
Chinese will eat everything but a rock. _________________ Patty

I tell you what makes me sick is the people over in the asian countries that eat shark fin soup. The fishermen catch the sharks in nets and cut there fins off and throw them back in the water to sink to the bottom. I would love to put my size 14 to the side of there face. Listen, I'm no rampaging animal rights activist and I on occasion go deer hunting but anything I shoot I always know it will be a quick kill and don't see anything wrong with hunting but to do something like cutting the fins off sharks and throwing them overboard to let them sink to the bottom is heartless. I guees they club baby seals when there not at sea. Lossers |

I hear ya! My Dad & brother were/are big on hunting & they tell everyone to shoot to kill. NEVER shoot a animal from behind cuz it will only suffer. Aim for the heart they say. They are big hunters but "don't let an animal suffer".
Only 'Shark fin soup'? Shark meat sells here for $16.00 a lb!! That is sooo crude to dump them back in the water - when they can't swim!
You sure they dump 'em back in? They eat EVERYTHING there - esp Asia.
A friend of a friend went hunting & they killed deer. The guy w/ them brought his chinese wife (he said ugh -he didn't want women there!). When they gutted the deer on site, & dragged the deer away, the girl wondered why they left guts behind. She said in China they would eat all of it. To her it was a waste! "Oh, these wasteful Americans". They would at least make soup of it or whatever.
I apologize to anyone who is digusted with the 'monkey brain' thing. I have a friend in Malaysia who tells me these things & they are true. It is just their culture.
I got emails of Chinese street venders during olympics. All grubs & bugs! Their fav is choc covered grasshoppers, and ffried grubs which are like big maggots to me...YUK...PUKE. They eat this stuff like we eat popcorn & hotdogs!
I have bartended long enough to not let anything surprise me, & believe me, not much does. But, as much as I am numbed, the live 'monkey brains' still gets to me. _________________ Patty

I saw a documentary on the shark hunters and it showed how they gig the shark into the boat, cut the fins off, and throw it back. You have to think, by the time they get done hunting there boat is slap full of fins so they aren't going to waste there time with the other parts of the shark that are worth nearly nothing to them money wise. Purely disgusting. If that doesn't make your heart crack then nothing does. The sharks sink to the bottom and lay there for hours till they die of not eating or get eaten by other predators. |

Then there's Americans who hunted Buffalo, skinned them for their hides, and left the meat to rot on the prairie. Each culture to their own . . .
Then again, if I "had" a live lobster, I'd probably throw it in a pot of boiling water and cook it alive. 'Don't know if lobster feel pain. I heard fish don't feel pain so I had no problem cleaning them alive, but maybe Skeet can answer the question.

The sign looked photoshopped. VERY FUNNY, nevertheless.
I agreed with Dauben. Our ancestors hunted Buffalo for their hides and threw away the rest.
We eat beef, and in some countries, cows are considered holy animals. We eat pork and crustaceans, and in some religions, pig and shellfish are considered dirty.
Live and let live, or to each his own (culture).
When I was in Asia, I actually had chocolate cover bugs, and it's actually not bad I was afraid to try them at first, though.
I had escargot (snails) and caviar (fish eggs) once too, and those were disgusting. Why do the rich people love them, I don't know.
As long as I don't know the ingredients of bologna and hot dogs, then it's all good for me.
...though, I will skip on the monkey brain, dogs, and cats. That's just plain wrong.
ps. There have been studies that lobsters and prawns DO feel pain and suffers when you throw them in hot water. Just google lobster and pain and you'll get a lot of interesting articles and research done by universities.
I don't let the animal rights/religious/vegetarian people get to me. Lobsters and prawns dinners everyday if I had the money. BBQ beef and pork...yummy...oh my. |

I don't know if anyone has ever heard the song that was a spoof on "There's a Cat in the Craddle", but it was called "There's a Cat in the Kettle at the Peking Moon . . . The place I used to eat every day at noon"
Here's a link, "http://www.guzer.com/animations/chowmein.php"
No offense to my Asian freinds. I still eat at the Peking Moon.

When I hear of "monkey brain," it reminds me of the movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984).
Remember the dinner scene at the Pankot Palace?
Indy (Ford), Willie (Kate Capshaw), and Short Round (Jonathan Ke Huy Quan) were served crunchy bug appetizer, Snake Surprise, steaming eyeball soup, and chilled monkey brains for dessert.
The look on Willie and ShortRound's faces was hilarious.
Definitely one of the most memorable scenes from the movie. Funny movie too.
Big Indiana Jones fan, except for the fourth installment. (Shia LaBeouf's character Mutt wasn't as good of an Indy sidekick as Short Round)

Yeah, Harrison Ford is my favorite actor! Grew up watching all of his movies.
What I can remember from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was that it was a dark movie, made during the time when Director and Producer, Spielberg and Lucas, were going thru separation from their respective female companions.
I though it was a great movie. That Short Round kid was FUNNY!
Memorable Quotes I got from IMBD website:
[Indy and Willie escaping from Chinese thugs, jump out of the building window and land thru the car roof and onto the back seat]
Short Round: Wow! Holy Smoke! Crash landing!
Indiana Jones: Short Round, step on it.
Short Round: Okey dokey, Dr. Jones.
[turns his cap around]
Short Round: Hold on to your potatoes!
Willie: For crying out loud, there's a *kid* driving the car!
----------
[Indy and Short Round are exploring a cavern]
Short Round: Feels like I step on fortune cookie!
Indiana Jones: It's not fortune cookies. Let me take a look.
[Indy lights a lighter to find bugs crawling all over the place]
Short Round: That no cookie!
----------
[Indy, Willie, and Short Round trapped on a rope bridge]
Indiana Jones: Shorty!
[Indy shouts to Shorty in Chinese. Short Round, wide-eyed, nods and wraps a rope around his arm]
Short Round: Hang on lady, we going for a ride!
[Indy raises his sword, and Willie realizes he's going to cut the rope bridge]
Willie: Oh... my... God! Oh my God... Oh my God...
[wraps a rope around her arm]
Willie: Is he nuts?
Short Round: He no nuts, he's crazy! |
