Do you reckon it's a Ponderosa? A Eureka gone haywire? Something exotic?

Is it a football? No, it's an enormous Cypriot lemon

PSEVDHAS, Cyprus (Reuters) - Lemon trees in a village in Cyprus have stunned their owners by suddenly bearing fruit so huge they're almost as large as footballs.

One tree has clumps of lemons with diameters ranging from 10 to 20 cm, making visitors wonder if there's something in the water. But the owners say it's all organic.

"The tree was grafted, and we haven't used anything we didn't on the other trees," says Androulla Charalambous, who has one of the super-trees in her back garden in Psevdhas, some 30 kms south-east of the Cypriot capital Nicosia.

Residents said several other villagers also had trees with lemons of similar size, weighing anything from 1.5 to 2.5 kilos.

"They have a lot of juice in them, and we use the peel to make candied fruit," Charalambous said.

I know lemons can be as big as that, but the picture as shown seems to be bogus, the lighting and how they are scattered, including how the weeds should be trampled upon are very suspicious with my poor vision.

Now looking back at the picture the grandma must be a dwarf or short legged in order for it to stand on the ground and the leaves of the huge lemon is not consistent with the rest of the leaves of the lemon tree. They are much bigger.
Good observation Joe.
My kid can post and paste and alter a picture like that.

Grandma is on her knees with the little girl in front of her. The lemons are only about two feet or so off the ground and very close to the camera which is distorting the perspective somewhat.

Androulla Charalambous and her granddaughter Evangelia Stavrinou pose next to lemons in Psevdhas, some 30 kms south-east of the Cypriot capital Nicosia March 25, 2006. The lemons have diameters ranging from 10 to 20 cm and weigh between 1.5 to 2.5 kilos.

I don't think the photo is doctored.

.....Alan.
