I don't know how this cold weather will affect them, but I put lisbon lemon buds on trees at my sisters' and my nephew's over in Alabama today. Lisbon lemon is the only budwood I have available right now.

The first one I did was out in the open exposed to the cold wind that was blowing. The tree is flushing and the bark was slipping, but the bark was not all that pliable. I think I did 6 bud on 2 trees there, but only one bud felt like it went in right at the start. The others kept slipping out or going in crooked. When I got to my nephew's the trees were protected from the wind and it felt a lot warmer in the sun-- all of the ones I did there went well.

I don't know if the cold weater will give the busd more time to connect before the buds die, or mean that there is less sap to help get the buds to take. It could get down to 32 over there tonight. I guess we will see.

So any updates on these? It's more than a month now.

My bark grafts on the other hand, are about 18" long now, grafted about a month ago. My T-buds are just starting to sprout.

All of the ones I did have died---several of them looked like they took and were still green after 3 weeks, but as soon as they were unwrapped, the bark pulled away and the bud turned brown in a day or 2.

That is why I use rubber band backing. I only take out the wrap on my T-buds about a year later if they haven't fallen off.

I will try that next time-- I do think that the cold just slowed things down and if I had waited 5-6 weeks there would not have been any problems. They looked very healthy when they were unwrapped.

I forgot about the one I did at my nephew's where it was out of the wind-- all 3 of the buds I put on his tree did well. He has already forced one and it is sprouting.

I also found one I missed earlier at my older sister's that is doing well. So over all, grafting in the cold seem to slow things down-- I think if I had waited 4-5 weeks to unwrap the others they would have done better.
