Last Friday, the meteorologist kept our area on alert for possible snow here in central South Carolina. It ended up being a fizzle but nevertheless I wanted to be prepared.

I decided to make a support to go under the center of the purlin to ease the weight of any possible snow on the frame. Here is what I came up with.

I took a 1 1/2 in. pvc tee and cut it half and then fitted it onto a length of pvc pipe measured to fit from the ground up to the purlin. I didn't glue fit the piece so I could store it for later use. If there were a forecast of heavy snow/ice then I would do a couple more.

Thats a great idea. I did the same just with a 2 by 4 and one of those electrical clamp things put over the ridge and nailed down to the 2 by 4.On the first heated and biggest green house I have made 18 by 80, Hope it survives march winds and future snow should have used 1 inch pvc I used 3/4 inch. Just got the plastic on today with DW a gust of wind came out of a perfectly still AM and thought it was going to take it away but we managed. Sorry No camera or knowledge to post photo's

The winds were gusting at 40 mph here today. I sure am glad my support was in place. At times I thought the GH was going to take off into the woods!
She held steady and solid.
