Hello all,

I'm new to the citrus tree scene. I orederd a lime, lemon, grapefruit, and orange tree from Fourwindsgrowers. They should arrive 12/20/2012. What are some suggestions for making the proper growing medium for them and ratios? I see things like CoCo coir, coco husks, peat moss, pecan shells, etc. I do not know how much of each to use or what is the most common mix. I figured I would go ahead and prepare before they arrive. I live in the Birmingham, AL area and plan on using containers. Please help a newbie! Laughing

Welcome to the forum. I would recommend doing a search, there is a lot of information on soil and containers. If you can't find specific information I am sure someone can help you.

Welcome to an awesome forum. If you don't know about Petals From The Past you need too ! It's located almost half way between Montgomery and Birmingham off the interstate at the Jemison exit. They have lots of heirloom type plants and an excellent selection of citrus. They have two of the largest Meyer Lemon trees that I have ever seen. A father son team own it and the father was the keynote speaker this year at this forum's yearly expo ! He has a green house on site with nothing but citrus, mainly different types of Satsuma but some other citrus too. They are planted in ground with a lot of space around them for educational purposes. If you are getting interested in citrus you will love this place ! The father has been with the extension services in Texas , Florida and Alabama and maybe another state or two. He has devoted his life to teaching others about citrus as well as other fruits. Tom
