I would guess that Im making history here in my area of S.C. I dont think anyone has ever grown and sold citrus fruits from a roadside stand. As most of you know, I grow vegetables year round and from here on to Febuary is the cabbage, brocolli, collard greens and sweet potato season. Im adding a new product line this fall since I have satsumas galore! I have one particular tree that probably has around 3 bushels of fruit on it. I decided to pick a few yesterday and put them in a peach basket to see how they would sell. I priced them at 3/1.00 and sold quite a few the first day! As luck would have it... Im having a tough time competing with the local IGA.. They have tangerines advertized out on their billboard at 28 Cents each! Lets hope most of my customers arent good in math! LOL

that sounds like fun!

going to a farm stand isnt about getting the cheapest prices... staples like carrots and onions, i usually get at the grocery, but if i can get fruit from a farmer, its usually better, and worth the price!

good luck!

The quality of store bought tangerines cannot compete with the quality of tree ripned satsumas. I have a friend in warren Tx that has already harvested 5 bushels from one tree.

Good going Stan.

Here is a picture of another crop you might consider. Faye mentioned how large the pomegranates were is the local Bi-Lo, so I went in and to check them out. I threw in the apple a cantalope for comparsion. They were $2.50 each and going fast! Needless to say, I decided to pass on buying any.

How fortunate folks are that can purchase fresh tree ripened citrus for any price! I remember the time I was visiting the Tampa area and my friends Dad had a grapefruit tree in the back yard and I picked one, peeled it and ate it--- SO VERY GOOD!

Stan
If you don’t already have a big sign stating “Home Grown”. I would recommend it. I know that would get my attention. I would rather pay more at a local farm market than I would at a supermarket chain store.

Well, what fortunate news. When I'm in South Carolina in two weeks, I know exactly where I can purchase fresh "Home Grown" produce. Things are looking up. - Millet

Stan,
I would have a sign saying "Home Grown South Carolina Satsuma Oranges".
You know the local TV station could do a local interest shot on the states only home grown South Carolina roadside orange Stand.

Right now, I'd kill for a fresh home grown citrus.
Stan, would it be too much to ask you to bring 3 or 6 of your satsumas to expo? I'll gladly pay $2 for 3! I never ate a satsuma...never saw one in our stores. We can do the trade at Fri dinner. Laughing
As much as you see fresh corn on cob in stores, there is nothing like farm fresh picked, road side stands. I'd drive 5 miles for this rather than walk 1 block to store!
