I bought a drill bit shaped like a pencil and a pencil sharpener from a gardening supply place. I have a couple of volunteer citrus from seed in my yard, as well as many good trees bearing fruit. I would like to graft the seedlings with some of the better citrus trees. Could I drill into the thick part of the trunk of a seedling and just sharpen a stick off a good tree and poke it in? At an angle? I tried 4 times different respectable grafts and all withered. |

Your description reminded me of The Plugger® Grafting Bit. Is this what you're using? I would like to know how effective it will be on citrus as well. _________________ Indoor Grower |

What on Earth wouldn't they invent, just to make the simple things complicated for no reason? |

Yes I know, but it still looks a bit awkward to me. |

The grafting I tried was unsuccessful because I do not have the knife and whatever needed to play. Will let you all know how it works out. But I am wondering about the angle in order to get the xylum and the phloem (spelling?) lined up correctly. |

Actually, if the bit and pencil method works, I think it would be easier and faster than doing it by hand. It all depends on how well the drill method works. To make it work, one needs to be careful how deep to drill, so that the cambium layers of both the hole drilled in the tree, and the cutting line up to each other. - Millet 96 |
