A couple of years ago I attended a meeting where Alam Vaughn, extension agent from Plauuemine parish Louisiana spoke. He stated that the sooner the fruit is removed from the tree after ripening that it is best for the tree. The reason there is a hormone in the seed that prevents the tree from going fully dormant..
