Thanks for the photos. Wish I could have made it.
One correction you may want to make, the variegated lemon is a Eureka not Lisbon. Variegated Lisbon does not have pink flesh. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Thanks for the correction on the Lemon, Laaz. I have updated the caption in facebook.
It really was great to meet so many folks in this small but very devoted citrus community. Dr. Manners, I was fascinated by your information on cold hardiness and may even try a few controlled experiments in my backyard this winter. Please keep us all updated as new ideas and research in this field become available.

Hey Laaz -- we noted that at the time of judging (I got to help judge this year), but decided correct cultivar ID was not a necessity for qualifying an entry (there were several others that were questionable as to the veracity of the label), so we left it labeled as the grower had entered it. It was, indeed, the sport of 'Eureka'. The problem with that, of course, is that now that it has sported (both for flesh color and for variegation), it is no longer 'Eureka'. The name "Variegeted Pink Eureka" should be ok though. |

All of the speakers did a wonderful job, including Tim, Dr. Manners, Dr. Hanna, Ken Wells. Terry did a great job in selecting and setting up the site. A big thanks to all, and to the folks at the New Hanover Arboretum for letting us use their facility. It turned out to be a great place for the event. Last but not least, thanks to Stan keeping the Expo going. Glad I didn't miss this one!

Yes I agree Malcolm. This cultivar seems to have many names these days, but is still a sport of Eureka. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

I just wanted to congratulate Ned for not only winning the Best in Show category ( the huge trophy ) but the honorable mention trophy too! Ned pretty much cleaned the clock with his citrus and olive oil entries! LOL.....Ned you will never live this one down!
I thought this Expo was one of the best I have ever attended! The speakers were all exceptional. I was in and out of the room but the information I gleaned was just some great stuff! Thanks to Dr Manners for taking his weekend to be with us , for a very informative lecture and for helping to serve as a judge, thanks to Tim , Ken and Dr Hanna for great presentations. Special thanks to Terry Reed for his hard work in setting up the room and grounds and for helping set it all back in place. A great big thank you to Tony Melton, Clemson Extension agent from Florence County, SC for serving as chief judge at every Expo we have ever had! And Finally! A great BIG thank you to all who came out and supported this day of citrus! Especially those of you who drove hundreds of miles to be here! It was truly an AWESOME Expo! _________________ Y ORANGE U Growin Citrus

Stan, I can see that was a big mistake to let you catch me with the olive oil, but I bet old Stan will have him a bottle in 2012!

Thanks for the great photos, Tim!
If you want any citrumelo budwood (from the one pictured - let me know!). It tastes pretty decent!
All the speakers were extremely informative and the venue was ideal.
Thanks to everyone! |
