Well.. St. Patrick's day found me elbow deep in taters... We planted 100 lbs of potatoes for our community garden and a few lbs of onions..

all the produce harvested will go to local food bank.. We have a bunch of other veggies we will be planting..

many hands make light work!!! and the kids had fun playing in the dirt!!!

All and all it took just under 2 hrs to plant all the spuds and onions.. including making rows..

the land we are gardening is flood recovered property and for now our "plots" consist of 1 50'X 170' and 1 50'X 90'..

also a local retired farmer is donating some rows of corn from his field..

Though hubby is cut back to part time off and on.. we are thankful for that work.. and decided to help out with those who were not as fortunate and lost their jobs so we got involved with this community project..

hope you enjoy the pics..

Making rows......

Cover and fertilize...

and mother nature is watering them spuds right now..
the city is putting in water faucets and lighting for the area..

oh.. I'd llike to add... please visit... http://www.potatogarden.com/index.html
they gave us a FANTASTIC deal and I'd like to pass their web site on to any looking for tatters, onions, garlic, and sun chokes.. I was VERY pleased with the shipping and condition of the spuds!!!! they even have colored spuds if you want to grow something strange...

What a great deal and fun and exercise to boot! A great community project and in these times, an important one! Potatoes are such fun, pretty low maintenance! I showed my gal pal, a real city girl how to grow them and she had such fun harvesting them, like a kid in a toy store. Great pictures, hope all grows well! Very Happy

Will I see Saint Patrick, one of the great saints of the Church, was there helping. However, I did not know Saint Patric still had green hair. I thought it would be white by now. Good work, for a good cause. - Millet (1,388-)
