Ok, I knew key limes would be true. We'll see what I get from my seeds in a bit. I won't bother digging through the common limes then. At some point I may go looking for cuttings.

I have looked up here about pummelos, if they sprout true from seed, but I seem to have missed any info if there is some. So forgive me if I am repeating this question, but, well, do they? I have found information elsewhere online that state that they do, and some info that state that they don't.

Does it matter what variety. Say a common 'red pummelo' you find in a grocery store?

I desire to shift my efforts from growing orchids to growing citrus, a much more useful endeavor perhaps. On a poor college student budget of course haha. For now I have satsuma, basic tangarine, a clementine (not true from seed as I find out), pink grapefruit, either Lisbon or Eureka lemmon (I can't tell the difference yet), key lime, and possibly pummelo seeds planted. I'd like to add bearss/persian lime, Buddha's Hand, and a Keffir at some point. These three I deduce not by seed.

I probably shouldn't go too over board until I am more settled down... orchids are a real obsession and I have to transfer that obsession to SOMEthing!

Kaffir lime is perfectly fine from seed since the leaves are it's main attraction and it does grow true. Just make a sure you get your seeds from a safe local (USA) source.

Almost all sweet oranges, true grapefruit , lemons, limes, pure mandarins (other than King and Clementine), most tangelos, hybrid tangerines and tangors (except Temple) come true from seed. Almost all pummelos do not come true from seed. - Millet (337 ABo-)

I'm sure it does, it's the wait. Unless your Laaz, growing oranges and grapefruits from seed is a terribly long wait.

As Millet has said, the exciting varieties to grow from seed are the ones that don't come true because they will be unique trees. Likely inferior to their parent, but unique.

Kaffir lime, Key lime and of course rootstock are the best true varieties to grow from seeds in my opinion, unless it's a very difficult to obtain variety.

Has anyone had experience with a moro blood orange seed growing true? I did a search but didn't find anything. I am thinking maybe my search skills are very poor haha! At any rate I found a nice fat moro seed begging to grow into SOMEthing...

Moro Blood Orange will come true from seed. There is a way that you can tell if a seed will be true to type or not, no matter what type of citrus seed it is. Examine a few seeds from the tree by peeling off the outer and inner seed coat. If the seed is polyembryonic, (has many embryos), it will come true. If it is polyembryonic, you will see embryos convoluted one upon an other. If it is mono-embryonic, there will be only one embryo with two distinct cotyledons. Mono-embryonic seeds will not come true from seed. - Millet (333 ABo-)

All of the citrus that are supposed to be true from seed I have noticed do have multiple embryos. Except the key limes in my case, which I understand are mono. Thanks Millet!
