Hello all,
I'm going to be working on becoming a certified producer with the County of San Diego so that I cans sell some of my produce at the local farmers market. Obviously they want to know what you're growing, but I really don't know what type of grapefruit I have. It's a light pink grapfruit which is about all my neighbors can tell me (since they have the same type growing on their properties). Anyway, if anyone can identify the grapefruit in the pictures below, I'd be indebted to you (for a box of grapefruit (u-pick)). Smile

Send a private message to Dr. Manners, and ask him to look at your pictures. The chances are very high he will be able to help you identify the variety. - Millet (1,413-)

I took another picture of three different fruit from three trees. I noticed the one on the left which was yellow but less ripe had whitish fruit, but the one the that was the most ripe was pink. Is this typical or is it possible that I have different cultivars planted next to eachother? I guess I can check by picking fruit from the same tree, but I'm out of daylight. I just ate the most ripe grapefruit and it was GOOD!!!

I started cutting fruit open from one tree after another to see if they appeared to be different cultivars, but I think I've concluded that they are all the same, but only the very ripe grapefruit have the pink blush to them. If you pick them when they're a little less ripe, they don't have any pigment on the inside.

My other conclusion is that the very sweet grapefruit are the ones that are the most ripe. The ones with the softer skin to the touch are much better tasting than the ones with the firm skin. I wonder if the grocery store grapefruit is picked too early to make it marketable to customers. I probably wouldn't have picked a soft grapefruit up at a store until now. Then again there's soft off the tree and there's probably soft because it's been off the tree too long. Probably hard to tell the difference in the grocery store.
