I presently have a valencia orange and an Owari Satsuma. I'm looking to plant something that would bear in between these two. Any suggestions? Also, is anyone familiar with the Ambersweet orange? I'm between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Early ST. Anne and Louisiana Early are early ripening satsuma. Oba Wase is a mid season ripening satsuma. Brown Select is a late ripening satsuma. Try to obtain your trees on Flying Dragon or Trifoliata Orange root stock. The Flying Dragon will produce a nice size tree that is manageable. We have 3 trees in the back yard that are about 6 feet in height and 5 to 6 feet in diameter and give us more than we can consume.

My wife's favorite, and our largest tree is an Ambersweet. Sweet favorful fruit but will put out new growth early in the year, which would be subject to late freezes. That said, mine has never failed to produce a crop. (knock on wood). Large tree, like Buddingman says about the Satsuma's, it would be best to find them on trifoliate.
