Hello all,
I tested the well water last night at the new house. The water is very hard and I got to thinking about a water softener, but don't want to use sodium salt since it will end up in the leach field. I don't know much about the potassium salt substitute for water softeners, but I thought I'd get advice to see what you all thought and whether it would have any greater benefit over sodium when it ends up in the soil.

Thanks,
Phillip

As soon as I get my bonus, I plan to get these salt-free water softener combo:

http://www.waterfilter-usa.com/pse1800-premium-whole-house-filtersoftener-13-bathrooms-p-379.html

If you only want the salt-free water softener alone, without the whole house filter, then it is cheaper:
http://www.waterfilter-usa.com/natursoft-saltfree-softener-13-bathrooms-up-to-75-grains-p-361.html

They can tolerate very hard water, up to 75 grains, much much better than other salt-free water softeners which only goes to 45 grains.

Joe,
Do you have any data on their salt free softener? I would like to take a look at the technology. I read yesterday a lot of negative stuff on the web about salt-less water softeners being a lot of voodoo and not a lot of data to back up their claims.

When you get your bonus though, I'd be interested in how it works for you. Testimonials are often better than the sales gimmicks merchants put out.

I'll be putting my RO system in on our new house for drinking water, but it would still be nice to have softer water for the laundry and showers.
