Have we had a 'Longest Thorn Competition' before?
My entry is on a Morton citrange seedling.

What tree has the largest thorns?
=====================
Hawthorn:
Quotes
"The Cockspur hawthorn (Crataegus crus-galli) has thorns that are observed at up to five inches in length.
These thorns are thought to be a remnant of protection by the plant against the large browsing animals
of the Pleistocene era." Source.
"The thorns of hawthorns are clearly intended to fend off browsers, who find both leaves and fruit highly desirable. Other plants in the rose family, of which the hawthorn genus is a member, are similarly desired. But what do the thorns fend off?" More here.
"...the most widespread Texas hawthorn. It has shiny, leathery leaves and dull red to greenish fruit, but it is most readily identified by its long, fat thorns that are 4 to 8 inches long." Source.
Honey locust:
"Along the trunk, there are usually both simple and branched thorns up to 8" long; there are also simple and tripartite thorns along the lower branches." Source.

I see 2 types of people among visitors of the tree, ones approaching and touching thorns, others only watching from a safe distance - a meter (3ft) away.
Photo of today, approaching there wasn't easy
