That's great that it rooted!

I got a Carrie and a Mallika from Pine Island last month. They grow quite fast, it seems. I've seen the terminal end put on several inches in a matter of days.

Hilltop, Does it have roots, or is it just still green but without roots?

I don't know if it grew roots. Its in a one gallon black plastic pot. I rooted it on 6/2/10 so its been 7 weeks. The trunk and leaves are still green and the new leaves have gotten longer. I don't want to check if it has roots for fear of damaging them if they're there. Just because it sprouted leaves at the top does that mean it rooted? What are the chances that it will survive?

While I do wish you the best of luck, the reason I asked is that because mango is so very difficult to root from cuttings, the probability of you're getting a successful rooting on one attempt is rather like winning the State lottery on your first ticket bought. Yes, it's possible, but not at all probable. Please keep us posted!

I should buy a ticket! Actually, this is my second attempt. My first attempt, the Carrie mango, didn't make it. I'll try and take pictures and keep you updated.

Wow that looks great!! Sounds like you should patent that idea. Lol
Keep us updated on it. I would love to know because I have about 50 mango trees that I top off and or prune so I always have cutting available.
Btw my mulberry did that to me once growing like crazy and I went to repot it and no roots where there!!

Here is an earlier picture when it still had a zip lock bag over the top. This is how it was from the time I planted the top half of the tree to when I noticed the new set of leaves. I then replaced the zip lock bag with another two liter bottle with the top cut off.




I have since replaced the soda bottles with an empty plastic pretzel container because I wanted to remove the soda bottle before the leaves got too large to pass through the top.

Cutting is still alive. Its grown a few inches in height and the juvenile leaves are now full sized. Other than that, no new growth in terms of additional branches or new leaves.

Here is an updated picture. The plastic top used to sit on top of the soil but I had to raise it once it grew to the top. I'll probably have to bring it inside once the weather starts cooling down.

Is it still alive?

Yes. Still going strong. I didn't bring it in for the winter like I had planned to. Instead I just wrapped the pot in bubble wrap. I'll unwrap it when the weather is consistently warm.

I want to top it again and graft a Carrie onto it. If you'll read my other thread, you'll see what happened to my Carrie. My Carrie is another story that took yet another turn that I'll have to update everyone on when I get a chance.
