A very serious defect in the Florida orange industry is the concentration of a tremendous number of sweet orange groves all packed within a relatively small area. Most all of Florida's bearing sweet orange trees are within an area of about 400 - 500 square miles. With the introduction of any new pest, or a new virulent disease (such as greening), or even a more virulent form of a current disease, plus Florida's favorable environment, such a monoculture as is currently present in Florida, can easily lead to a disaster. - Millet (1,168-)
