EVERY species of flowering plant, fruit trees included, may be identified by the distinctive shape, and elaborate sculpturing, of its pollen's outer wall, seen only with powerful microscopes. No two pollen shapes are the same. Pollen is so resistant to decay that fossil pollen, retrieved after being buried for thousands of years, have provided an accurate record of ancient floras and trees, that once grew throughout the world. Absolutely amazing!- Millet
