Caution, quite political rant follows. Book is by Stanley Kurtz. Just finished it. Kind of scary actually. I knew BHO was progressive and had the most liberal voting record of any US Senator but... It tells the tale of all the Socialists and Communists(unrepentant communist with a small c and former Weatherman Bill Ayers) Obama spent his whole career working with, being friends with, and in the company of. It also reveals the half truths, lies and deceptions he used to cover up his close ties to ACORN and other radical groups during the 2008 campaign. Quite a lot about his former pastor Jeremiah Wright and the trips he took to Cuba to praise Castro and other tasty bits as well. Quite a coverup by the liberal press of all the inconvenient truths of the radical past of the current POTUS. And what about his hidden and secretive college professor days that have been covered up? Book also makes quite a deal about the 80s Socialist Scholar s Conferences Obama admits to attending.
I have to admit, there isn't much out there where Obama actually states his Socialist beliefs. But the pals he has hung out around his whole career sure do. I believe most people hang out with those of similar beliefs. I know I don't hang out with progressives that's for sure. There are exceptions though as my longest lasting friendships of 30+ years was with a tried and true Cuban American born Democrat sympathetic with Castro (we didn't discuss politics).
The book plods along but it has it's interesting chapters.
This one is a good compliment to "Reckless Endangerment" by Gretchen Morgenson and Joshua Rosner which tells the tale of how the 2008 economic implosion came about.
I made a comment about this other book a while back and blamed Clinton for starting the whole mess and got some disbelief from a Clintonite. Well, the second time I'm reading this book I'm bookmarking key causes. Here goes:
William Jefferson Clinton kicked the crisis off with his "National Partners in Homeownership" 1994 program. This good one made home ownership more affordable by new lending "products" expanding "outreach", oops, I meant to say lower lending standards so the favored poor could buy homes they couldn't afford to pay for. I wasn't inaccurate about Slick Willie after all (look it up Clintonites.)
It also reminded me how a new CEO of Fannie Mae Jim Johnson in the early 90s vastly increased spending on political influence buying to help things along as well(to increase his yearly bonuses I might add from all the new business he got from it). He would give money to groups like ACORN so that they could lobby Congress to make more sub prime loans to it's impoverished member. Johnson was also great at passing out jobs/making charitable contributions to Barney Franks relatives and cronies. What a disgusting mess mess this all became that almost sunk the whole world's economy.
I'd also forgotten how big a player ACORN was in making noise about lending "fairness."
The other big catalyst was the 1977 Community Development Act passed by Carter to encourage unsound lending practices. Look that one up too.
Can't let the Repubs off scot free. The bumbler "W" let all this continue during his watch.
