Prevention-wise, I'm not sure that there is anything much that you really can do. Be careful with any citrus that you bring in from outside and certainly don't let any fruit with brown or black spots near. Always check over your plants at least every few days in order to detect any problem as early as possible.
Luckily, SOS is not as bad as other citrus problems out there.
