I bought the tree this past March. It's just now in full bloom. According to UCR, in S. Cal the fruit matures in February. I'm in N. Cal, so I expect the typical peak season to be later than what UCR reports. But does anyone know how long it typically should take for the fruit to mature? This seems late in the season for it to be blooming, but perhaps the smallish fruit mature quickly.

Sometimes it blooms twice a year, especially we have this unseasonably prolonged nice warm weather. This second bloom do not produce nice juicy tasty fruits though. The blooms in march through April produces fruits that are better tasting. I have several fruits of W.Murcott and I would say that they are about on schedule as UCR has stated, with no delays, give or take a week or two.

I'm in Davis, N. Cal.

I am curious and would like to expand on the question just a bit..
The tree is apparently potted.. If the tree were to receive protection maybe put in a warmer mini climate, maybe brought in, could the fruit survive?? and if an off season fruit were to survive would the taste be off?? Rolling Eyes

So Joe, is it the spring bloom that ripens in February? If so, that means this crop should mature about next August or September?

Gina, in our climate the fruit should have no problem surviving most winters. YMMV. I have two Algerian Clementine fruit that were on a tree I bought about a year ago. They wintered over out doors and are just now ripening. I'm not expecting too much flavor wise, as they will be the first mature fruit. This year's spring bloom set is about walnut size now. I'm looking forward to harvesting those.

Kent, my W.Murcott ripens around late January. My Algerian ripens around November, the Owari Satsuma ripens around December. It was starting the 4th or 5th year of Algerian crop that the taste dramatically improved. I love the taste of the Algerian's now, they mark the opening rounds of my mandarin harvests. This year I will have Shasta Gold, Yosemite Gold loaded on the grafted branches. Will have sufficient taste the first time. Will report on their harvest dates and their taste.
