I bought a champagne cocktail grapefruit in May and had it on the patio all Summer. It was doing great out there, but true to grapefruit form it dropped all but 4 of it's top leaves days after being moved inside for the Winter.
I put it in front of the patio door, which is a NW facing glass door, and continued to water and fertilize as usual. I recently noticed three new shoots coming out in the middle of the trunk, well above the graft. I thought this was odd since it only gets about an hour of soft evening light every day, but wondered if the kitchen fan light, which is basically a spotlight pointed directly at the tree, is accidentally helping to supplement it. In the Summer that location will get 4 to 5 hours of good light, so my opinion is that if it can send out shoots there in January, it might just be best to leave it there all year long.
I know this post wasn't really a question, but I'm happy and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with their citrus, and if it's a good thing to do. I figure if it likes that spot, why mess with it.
