Can't believe that these kinds of research are paying off for California and Florida. Somethine worthwhile that the federal government has been doing. People controlling canker and greening disease might learn a trick or two from the control of fruit flies, after all, the citrus industry of California alone is almost $0.75B.

I'm sure USDA, Florida and others are doing similar work on the asian citrus psyllid-- that is the agent spreading citrus greening. Canker of course is a different problem.

I know Florida is using biological controls where possible-- Univ. of Florida researchers were the ones that imported Ageniaspis citricola-- the leaf miner predator from Australia and Dr Nguyen at UF is the one that sent me the Ageniaspis citricola to release in Pensacola. Fortunatly they appear to have established and I have not had to use any toxic pesticides like spinosad to maintain control-- I have sprayed oil a few times, but after I realized that most of the mines were infected with the predator I even quit using the oil.

I just did a quick search and here is a link from Univ of CA on the biological controls that Florida is using to control the asian citrus psyllid-
