What is this "red" lime i have heard about? Is this a true lime?Supposed to be the size of a key lime but with red flesh. Are they readily available? |

I remember someone from europe posted pics of it here & everyone here was asking him for seeds. It's not "readily available" anywhere I guess. I'll try to find that post & put it here (unless someone can beat me to it?). _________________ Patty

Thanks patty for your insight. i found a place that sells them, but of course its in FL. Can't ship to CA. It would be nice to have something that is rare or uncommon like a red lime. Limes are my fav. here is the link: just scroll down to the lime section.

I have a tree I grew from seed of these red "Limes". It is two years old & 6 ft tall. From what the leaves look like it is really some sort of sour mandarin. I'll know for sure when it fruits... |

I notice they list it ONLY by the common name Red "Lime." They do not list the actual varietal name, which will tell what type of citrus the tree really is. Make me wonder. - Millet |

I bet you are on to the answer Lazz. ("even a little better than Rangpur")! may be a clue. Seems like I have read about a red fleshed, sour citrus somewhere.

I looked in cont'r & inground citrus & can't find the posting. It was red skinned fruit. I think I remember Darren asking for seeds. So, Darren if you read this, help. Everyone was saying how they never saw that fruit before, & I swear it was a lime w/ red-purple peel. Anyone remember that? _________________ Patty

Hey Patty,
To be honest, I don't remember that particular thread. That also doesn't mean much, I sometimes forget what happened yesterday. I will also poke around and see if I can find it.
Now, I have what has been called a Red Lime that I grew from seeds that I swapped with somebody on "another" forum....can't imagine which one THAT was! LOL
I think I may have given Laaz one. It looks like some kind of a Mnadarin to me also, again, will have to wait until fruit.

The red lime is a sour mandarin. I tried one at Echo in Ft. Meyers,FL while on vacation. |

A nursery would rather call such a tree "Red Lime" instead of its actual type, sour mandarin, because the name Red Lime has a much better purchasing appeal, therefore, they will sell more trees. Not very many people would want to purchase a sour mandarin tree. That is also why they do not list a proper varietal name. - Millet |
