Well, here we go again with a hard freeze predicted for Sunday night/Monday morning. NWS forecasts indicate that for 2/27 through 2/28, temps will be below freezing (31 to 2Cool from 11pm Sunday night to 8 am Monday morning. Sunday will be a generally colder day with temps ranging between 33 and 50 as a high. Of course, this is for the east side of Tucson. So I guess it is time to get the citrus protection out (lights and cloth) especially now that all my previously frosted citrus is sending out new replacement growth.

Also, http://www.plantmaps.com/interactive-arizona-last-frost-date-map.php is an interesting interactive map (based on Google Earth) showing the average last frost dates in Arizona. You can zoom in to street level. Their maps cover all of the US, not just Arizona.

This is the winter that will not end. Hope your citrus survives!

It will stay mild here through at least the first week of March.

Hi, I just joined this forum. I'm in Tucson also - just west of the Casino del Sol in Star Valley. Not happy about a last cold snap either, but this one won't be so bad it seems. Hopefully, we'll be out of the woods after this one. I will end this post with a quote:

"Climate is what you expect, weather is what you get."
— Robert A. Heinlein

Cheers,
Eric

Hi Uncle DIrt:

On the other GW forums I am pgde over by Saguaro NM East. We have corresponded on there in the past. Welcome aboard!

Anyway, this sounds like an interesting weekend from the weather perspective here in Tucson. Tomorrow about 11am, winds are to pick up from calm (now) to a sustained speed of 25 with gusts to 50. Yes, 50 mph. There are all sorts of wind and blowing dust advisories out, especially for I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix, and I-8. Then, when that dies down about 11 pm, we will finally get some rain, possible thunderstorms. On Sunday, there is a significant chance of accumulating snow (less than an inch) and rapidly dropping temps. The NWS has revised their forecast here and will go below freezing here at 11pm Sunday night to a three hour low of 26 finally making it above freezing at 8am Monday morning. Have reinstalled all my citrus protection (lights, frost protection blankets). Hard to believe but we will be going from a high of 70 today to a high of 48 on Sunday. Let's all hope it will be the last of the season.

P.

They are predicting snow here where I live in San Diego. It would be odd to see snow covered citrus trees.

Wow...that is unusual. Perhaps a picture or two would be interesting. I wonder if the bad weather will make it over the mountains.

I've got my camera all charged and ready to go for tomorrow morning. Snow on Saguaros should be a pretty picture <g>.

As requested, here's a couple of pictures of the snow that we received a couple of weeks ago. Sorry it took a while . . . I forgot. Smile

Whoa, Phillip Surprised That's a lot of snow for Ramona! What's your elevation where you are? My gosh. How did everything fare? Poor palm trees! Is that your orchard in the top photo? You've a nice expanse of land. And a very lovely panoramic view, how pretty!

I'm at 1,625 feet where my house is. Everything did okay and I didn't have any major damage. Those are my groves in the foreground of the picture. My house was a foreclosure with a lot of neglected trees. Below is a before and after shot of the citrus when I bought the house and what it looks like now.
