Millet, thanks, I completely agree that the very vast majority of zygotic seedlings resulting from a Juanita x Poncirus (JxP) cross would likely be disgusting edibles. My interest is the hope that such a cross might be as hardy as the Changsha x Poncirus (CxP) crosses. My interest would be in crossing the (JxP) with the (CxP) to see if any of the resulting plants would be still hardier (and also crossing them with citrumelos or other Poncirus hybrids that are available). I'm hoping to get a genepool of plants going that are about the same hardiness as Poncirus, but with an influx of Citrus genes to give some improvement to the fruit (though perhaps still not tasty). Then I'd like to use that pool of plants for further crosses/improvement. I'm mostly just interested in hardier citrus for home gardeners/others interested in hybridizing.

Greg, your aim is both challenging, interesting, and probably will be fulfilling for you . I hope you are young. As what you wish to do will take 20 to 30 years to complete- Millet (384-ABO-)

That was my guess too...I figure I'll take a shot and see if I make it. Wink I'm 41 and am feeling good so far, but no guaranties. I'll just start with what's available and work things like the Juanita cross in as it comes along. In the meantime I'll take good care of myself (well, I'll try) and share anything interesting that comes out of it. Between this and a number of non-citrus hybridizing ideas I'm trying for I should at least be busy enough to stay out of too much trouble.
