I found a lemon tree in Raleigh, NC. I stopped in a Restaurant and found this lemon tree.
The person who volunteered information said that they grew it from seed. They have had it for several years and it started having lemons last year. The tree is kept on a covered unheated porch.
It showed signs of being severely pruned back last Spring or earlier. Im guessing as a result of Winter Die Back.
Next Summer well see what the fruit is like and how cold hardy it is.

This is great, keep these citrus hunts coming. I want to go citrus hunting in the cold parts of Asia to find the mythical cold hardy sweet citrus.

If I had the space I'd plant thousands of seeds from good tasting varieties and leave them to grow unprotected. There's bound to be one that turns out to be truely cold hardy and good tasting. I think I'll try a small experiment like this with the limited space I have next spring.
