Does anybody know Pomelo (grapefruit) Enzo, a french variety? it is claimed to be hardy to -12°C for the plant itself and the fruits.
All I could find about it is in french, maybe someone can translate?
Sadly, my french is limited...

It is a chance seedling that is sold by one small nursery in the South of the France. I have it, but have not had yet the fruits. It is supposed to resist -12C, have rather early ( December-January) ripeness and good quality of the fruits. I do not think that it has been tested by many people here.

Thank you Ilya!

Yes I think it is not very common. I`ll try it next year when they have new plants. What are your experience with the hardiness? Have you it in open ground?

Thanks again!

No, I have not tried it yet in open ground but also we have not had here a real winter this season (one night in December with -5C).
When ordering, make sure that plant is on poncirus. They are also selling grafts on Carrizo and other less hardy citranges.

It should be noted that, for those interested, that this isn't a pummelo, but a grapefruit instead. Pomelo is the french for grapefruit.
I'm adding this just because I have been fooled when I first read it.

Anyway, this looks an interesting plant, it is on my wish list.

From what I've studied, pummelo and grapefruit are similar but not the same, and grapefruit may be a hybrid of pummelo. Grapefruit are polyembrionic but pummelo are monoembrionic. My French books say the French word for grapefruit is "pamplemousse".

There is a big confusion. In French spoken in France and Canada Citrus maxima (Pummelo) is called pamplemousse, but in French of Belgium it is pomelo and in Switzerland: pomélo.
Citrusxparadisii (grapefruit) is pomélo in France but pamplemousse in Belgium and Switzerland. Often it is also called grapefruit.

You are all (nearly) right.
In common language grapefruit is called pamplemousse but among the citrus growers we say pamplemousse for pummelo and pomelo for grapefruit.

However, as italian trying to speak about citrus with french people using english, I have had some problem understanding what plant I were referring to! Very Happy

Anyway, to go back in topic, i think that Enzo is a C. x paradisi.
