Is odor identification a genetic marker (not sure if that is the proper term) like being able to roll your tongue, or getting an ice cream headache, or attached/detached earlobes? (That's all I can remember from my high school biology!)
The reason I'm asking is that one of my Calla lilies is blooming, and I thought it had a wonderful sweet scent, sort of like cotton candy. Excited, I had Harry sniff it, and he couldn't smell anything! Huh?
Then I remembered one of my other favorite plants, a Arisaema (jack-in-the-pulpit) also had the same smell, and Harry couldn't smell that either. I've heard other comments that some people can smell it and some can't.
Comments? Has anyone noticed anything like this with your citrus blooms?

Yes, it is like color-blindness. Sometimes we find repulsive some of the aromas loved by other people. Take perfumes, there are those that can make me go barf yet the wearer obviously love those.

Fortunately, I am able to smell some variations in different citruses. I still have to find a citrus cultivar flower in my yard that don't smell good.
