Morocco has either very low citrus yields or very high local consumption and very low exports.

Morocco averages about 1.3 million metric tons per year, = 5.8 tons per acre, which is not bad. Brazil, the worlds largest citrus grower produces about 18.2 million metric tons per year. - Millet

All Citrus is exported into the UK.

The majority comes from Spain, usually Oranges and Lemons. But most Supermarkets want them in perfect shape which sometimes affects the flavour.

When Citrus is 'out of season' in Europe we get Citrus from elsewhere and some of this is from Morocco, who have a slightly warmer climate than Southern Europe.

We get most grapefruit from Israel or South Africa, Satsumas and Clementines from the same places and Limes are mostly from Brazil.
But Citrus from Morocco does seem to more frequent.

Also get Citrus from other lesser known places to keep the main basic types in the supermarkets. Also starting to get some hybrids with strange names e.g Clementillos for something ??

Pity we don't get some more 'exotic' varieties - now there's a thought if I had the space!?
