Hello everyone,
Should I use Miracid as a foliar feed and, if so, what is the correct amount of Miracid per gallon to use for foliar feeding? 1/4 tsp? I fertilize my containers 4 times per year w/Whitney's Avocado & Citrus food. Once per month I've been watering w/ 1/4 tsp per gallon of Miracid. I was thinking the plants would get more from a foliar feed of the Miracid, yes? Also, should the leaves be dry or should I spray when the morning dew is on them? Thanks! Stephanie

Hi Steph, Plants not only take fertilizers up through their roots, but can also absorb nutrients through the leaf. Foliar feeding feeds the tree incredibly fast, and it is not lilmited to synthetic fertilizers. You can also use manure teas or fish emulstion, both of which are organic fertilizers. With foliar feeding, it is just a matter of getting the fertilizer (synthetic or organic) on the leaves with a watering can, or a sprayer. When using synthetic chemicals like Miracid, or fish emulsion fertilizer as a foliar spray, cut the label's recommended rate for dilution in half, then apply. I always foliar feed my trees early in the morning or late in the evening. Do not spray during the heat of the day. Take care - Millet

Another nice aspect of foliar feeding is that leaves can absorb urea as a nitrogen source and use it immediately; if applied to soil, urea must at least be bacterially converted to ammonium, before the plant can get at it.
