Watering formula?

Hello.
Does anyone has a watering formula (quantity of water needed) or table depending of the size of the canopy, pot size, temperature etc. For containerized trees I mean. I have found some data about in ground trees but nothing about potted trees.

Make sure there are holes at the bottom of the container and water until the entire pot is saturated and water flows out of the bottom freely.

Indoors it is difficult. My solution for overwintering was to build a slanted bench with a large channel running down the length of it. All the citrus trees sit in a row on the bench. Water each with a gallon or so, and excess water pours out the bottom, running down the channel, and into a big bucket/tub which is dumped out side occasionally.
